Queen’s father encouraged her at a young age, by waking her and her siblings up before school and making them do jumping jacks, push-ups, sit-ups and run every morning. His tough love eventually is what encouraged Queen to take on hurdling and sprinting at Virginia Tech.

A natural athlete, Queen was the youngest member of the US Olympics team in 2008 at the age of 19- and became the first ever track and field athlete to compete in the Olympics. In 2010, she became a two-time NCAA Outdoor champion and in 2014 was runner-up in the USA Championships.
