The night before a wedding is full of love, laughter, nerves, tears, and lots of bubbly. As the bride settles into her hotel room surrounded by her accompanying bridal party, a whole whirlwind of emotions will be swirling around her mind – joy, fear, excitement, apprehension. It’s a time for late night pampering and last minute preparations before the biggest day of your life where you’ll marry your one and only, forever and eternally.
However, for one Australian bride, the night before her wedding was about to become a very different story. After receiving an anonymous text just hours before she was due to sleep, the bride’s life fell apart right before her very eyes. The message read: “I wouldn’t marry him. Will you?” accompanied with screenshots of texts her fiance had sent to another woman.
Feeling betrayed and utterly devastated, she came up with a brilliant plan to expose the lies of her cheating ex-fiance in the best possible way – in front of everyone. It’s a seriously juicy story. Read on to find out what happened.
The dream relationship
An Australian bride-to-be named Casey had her whole life ahead of her. She had a fantastic job, a loving family, and most importantly, she was due to marry the love of her life.
His name was Alex, and they had been together for six years until they decided to tie the knot and devote themselves to one another forever. They were in love, and they had built a wonderful life together. Casey knew he was “the one”, and she couldn’t be happier.
The big day
The big day was upon her, and on the night before, she was hanging out in the hotel suite with her best friends. The bubbles were flowing, dresses were being steamed, and nails were being painted. Casey couldn’t stop smiling. She was unbelievably excited to marry her beloved Alex tomorrow, and her mind wandered at the thought of spending the rest of her life with him.
Everything was perfect. As she and her friends gossiped with drinks in hand, she noticed her phone light up across the room. Was it Alex saying goodnight and telling her he loved her? She clambered across her friends towards the phone, her face beaming. As she got closer, she noticed it was a text message from an unknown number. Who was it?
A mysterious text message
She retrieved the phone and unlocked the screen. As she started to read the text, her friends noticed her face drop. The smile left her face, and instead, her eyes began to build up with tears. What was wrong? Her heart started beating fast, and her hands started sweating. She couldn’t believe what she was reading.
This was certainly not a text wishing her luck or sending love before the big day. Her bridesmaids started asking her what was wrong. They all gathered around her, comforting her as she held back the tears. Casey simply couldn’t get her words out to explain what was wrong. She started to panic. She felt sick. She was shaking. How could Alex do this to her?
An affair exposed
The text was from an anonymous number, and they left no name. It read “I wouldn’t marry him. Will you?” But that wasn’t it, what followed was multiple screenshots of a text message conversation between her fiance and another woman. The texts were certainly not innocent. In fact, they were very explicit.
He was cheating on her, and as she read the texts over and over, her life was falling apart with every second that went past. Was this real? There were multiple texts and even selfies exchanged by the pair. There was no other evidence needed. This was real. The texts ranged from months ago to only just a few days prior to their big day. Casey was shocked to her very core. She couldn’t comprehend this at all.
The selfie of the other woman was making her feel even worse. She was the exact opposite of what she looked like. She had olive skin and long dark hair, and Casey had fair skin and blonde hair. The other woman was beautiful. Casey felt ugly looking at her picture. She felt awful. Alex was a liar and a cheater.
How could he hurt her like this? They were due to marry in less than 24 hours! What was she supposed to do now? She and her friends re-read the texts over and over. It was clear as day – Alex had been having an affair for months with this woman. There were most likely other women too. The texts were legitimate. Casey was heartbroken.
An uneasy feeling
So what was she going to do? The wedding was in a matter of hours, and most of her friends and family had already traveled to the hotel to celebrate with them.
They had been planning this day for over a year, and paid out thousands of pounds, so how could she cancel it so abruptly? Her heart began to hurt even more. Casey loved Alex ever so dearly. She was so excited to spend the rest of her life with him, and it had all been taken away from her.
Unsure and unsettled
Casey was in floods of tears, and her friends were getting more and more angry. They were threatening Alex with all kinds of violence, and cursing him with all types of rude words. They couldn’t believe that he would do this to Casey.
She loved him so much, and it felt like it was all for nothing. Casey’s friends insisted that she call him immediately and tell him the wedding was off, but Casey couldn’t bring herself to do it. She loved him, and a big part of her still wanted to marry him.
A big decision
The girls eventually decided it was best to sleep, but Casey couldn’t sleep a wink. What was she to do? Through the night she came up with a plan. At the break of dawn, she woke her bridesmaids up and told her what the plan was.
She was going to go ahead with the wedding as usual, and then ‘out’ him in front of their friends and family when she was due to read out her vows. Casey felt sick, and her nerves were through the roof, but she had to do this. It was the least he deserved.
Walking down the aisle
As Casey counted down the hours until they were due at the church, her heart grew heavier and heavier. She was determined to get this done with. As the bridal party reached the church, Casey got out of the car in the beautiful wedding gown she had picked out.
Her dream dress merely felt like a costume now. This was horrible. She entered the church and began walking down the aisle. The minute Alex saw Casey’s face, he knew something was up.
As Casey arrived at the altar, she took a deep breath and turned to face him. She felt nothing. She looked out at the sea of faces watching on. She couldn’t quite comprehend what she was about to do.
Her friends and family all looked excited, not knowing what she had in store for them. This was supposed to be the single happiest day of their lives, but instead, she was about to bring Alex’s life crashing down, just like he had done to hers.
Making an announcement
As the two stood in front of everyone, Casey could barely bring herself to look at him. Instead, she looked at her mom who was looking on somewhat concerned. She knew something was up, but what? The time came for Casey to read out her vows, and she began addressing the guests who sat in front of her.
What was going on? Alex immediately looked worried, he was confused, and most of all, he was fearful. As the guests silently watched on, she started speaking: “There will be no wedding today,” she said.
A canceled wedding
She continued: “It seems Alex is not the man I thought he was.” Some members of the crowd gasped, others watched on silently. Everyone knew something bad was about to happen. Alex tried to grab her hands, pulling her in closer, but she pushed him away.
Instead, she put down her bouquet and pulled out her phone instead. Alex’s face dropped even further. What was about to happen? She began reading every single text message that had been sent to her the night before.
Reading the texts
Feeling numb but strong and determined to expose his lies, Casey continued speaking. The first message read: “This weekend is on hot stuff. Bring your A game.” With every word that Casey spoke, more and more color left Alex’s face.
The next message was so explicit it would have made the entire crowd blush. He finished the message with, “I wish Casey had half the skills you do.” With every text she read, Casey’s heartbeat was getting faster and faster.
Her legs were shaking, and her belly was doing somersaults, but she had to stay composed. The last message read: “I miss you so much. I can’t stop thinking about you. I’ve never had a connection like this before.”
Finally, Casey finished. The last few moments had been a blur. Had she really just done that? She glanced her tearful eyes up towards Alex, and he looked at her and said nothing. After all that, he still had nothing to say.
A sheepish groom
The two stared at each other intensely for just a moment. No words were spoken, but yet a million different things were said. Casey’s heart had been broken in two, and her life had been ripped apart at the seams.
Alex then suddenly turned away and started charging out of the church. The guests watched him as he left, all stunned into their seats, not saying a word. His best man followed him too, and Casey was left at the altar alone.
For a moment or two, Casey didn’t know what to say or do. She stood alone in front of her loved family and friends, trying to fathom the situation she was in. She felt numb. She felt solemn. But she also felt powerful.
This was the hardest moment of her life, but she was proud of herself for being so strong. Alex had taken her future away from her in the cruelest way possible, and he deserved to be punished and ridiculed in the most embarrassing way she could.
A shocked crowd
As the door shut behind Alex and his best man, there was a smattering of applause and quiet cheering that rippled through the crowd. Everyone was still in shock, not knowing what to do or how to react.
Casey looked out upon the faces she loved so dearly, who had all been invited to share this moment that was supposed to be the best day of her life. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out the way they were supposed to, but she had an alternate plan.
Change of plans
She began addressing the crowd once more. She took one more deep breath and informed the guests of her new plan: “I love each and every one of you, and as terrible as this is, I’m glad you are all here.”
She continued, “There will be no wedding reception today, but instead, there will be a big celebration of honesty, true love, and following your heart even when it really hurts.” Another round of applause came from the crowd, and Casey gave a little smile.
The day was bittersweet for Casey and those who she loved most dearly. It was the day that she and Alex were meant to start their life together, but it had turned into something very different.
It was now a sad day where she lost the love of her life, realizing he was not the man she thought he was. Nonetheless, there was a small part of Casey that was relieved she had avoided marrying a man who was, in fact, a liar and a cheater.
An unforgettable wedding
Receiving the texts that informed her of Alex’s infidelity changed Casey’s life, for the better and worse. The texts had given her the chance to get out of something which would only have hurt her even more painfully in the long run.
This was an awful day that would stay with Casey for the rest of her life, but at least it could now be turned into something good. It was an unforgettable day for everyone.
The day ended with a rather strange party at which Casey danced her troubles away, celebrating a lucky escape from a man who had no qualms about hurting her.
As the night grew later, she started to accept that this was the way it was supposed to be. The best part about it was that the thousands of pounds they spent on the wedding reception didn’t go to waste. At least she could have an epic party with her friends and loved ones.
Casey has since moved on from the would-be-wedding day, sharing her story on the blog site ‘Whimn.’ She explained in depth all the emotions that she went through. She ended the post explaining how much of an incredible party it had been.
A silver lining after everything she had been through. If there’s one thing we can learn from Casey’s story, it is that bravery and courage always wins, and cheating and infidelity always loses, and it loses big time. Well done, Casey!
