When we talk about heroes you might first think of a superhero, or a public servant. A hero is someone who risks their life to save another person. For example a hero can be a superhero who uses their super powers to save the world against all evils. Or a firefighter that runs into a burning building to save a complete stranger. A policeman who puts their lives on the line every time they respond to an emergency, wearing only a measly bullet proof vest is a hero.
A hero can even be somebody who simply gives to charity or makes another person feel better. A lot of people harboring thoughts about self-destructive behavior or living without a roof over their heads credit simple everyday people with saving their lives. Just making a person feel heard and wanted can make you a hero in their eyes. A small child that saves their parents by having the foresight to dial 911 is a hero. But the last thing you would say is a dog. Dogs might be cute, but can they be heroes?

When it comes to canine heroics, it just doesn’t get better than one plucky golden retriever named Storm. This pooch ran into the ocean and saved a drowning fawn by carrying it out of the water gently by the neck. Storm then stayed with the distressed fawn while his owner called for help.

The rescue team declared that the fawn would have died if it had spent even a few more minutes in the freezing ocean. Though it suffered several injuries, the fawn owes its life to Storm. Storm proved to all of us that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.
