Denis Potvin joins several defesenmen on this list who were offensive defensemen. As the captain of the New York Islanders during their dynasty of the early 80s, Potvin won four consecutive Stanley Cups. He broke the record for goals scored by a defenseman and won three Norris Trophies and the Calder trophy. When Potvin retired after 15 seasons in the league, he was the leader in goals, assists and points by a defenseman. Those records were broken by other defenders on this list. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.
