As the captain of the New York Islanders during their dynasty of the early 80s, Potvin won four consecutive Stanley Cups. He broke the record for goals scored by a defenseman and won three Norris Trophies and the Calder trophy. When Potvin retired after 15 seasons in the league, he was the leader in goals, assists and points by a defenseman. Those records were broken by other defenders on this list. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1991.
