[post_page_title]Janet Guthrie[/post_page_title]
Before there was Danica Patrick, there was Janet Guthrie. In 1976, Guthrie became the first woman to race in a NASCAR Cup stock car race. The following year she became the first female to compete in both the Daytona 500 and Indianapolis 500.
She competed in 33 NASCAR races over four years, and even finished ninth in the Indy 500, a record for women until Danica came along. Gurthrie wrote a memoir about her experience titled Janet Guthrie: A Life at Full Throttle.
