McKayla Maroney is something of an icon in the gymnastics community. She is retired since 2016, but had a great career before then and was part of the unbeatable American gymnastics team nicknamed “Fierce Five”, which won the 2012 Summer Olympics.
During the Olympics McKayla secured the individual silver medal in the vault event, but was also struggling with a broken toe during the entire event. Despite this her and her teammates managed to take home the gold for the US.
