Danica Patrick took the racing world by storm in 2005. During her Indianapolis 500 debut, Patrick made history when she became the first female to lead a lap. She finished the race in fourth place, also a new record for women.
A week after that race she became the first Indy Car driver to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated in two decades. She wasn’t done making history yet. In 2008, she became the first female to win a major league open-wheel race in the IndyCar Series Indy Japan 300.
