People love to get behind a sporting franchise as it allows them to closely follow the sport they love while experiencing the ups and downs of their team. Not every team is going to win the championship at the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have their fair share of fans. These are the biggest franchises that fans follow whether they win or they lose.
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have one of the most iconic uniforms in all of professional sport, not just baseball. To add to their iconic uniform, they have one of the most recognizable logos in the world. All it took was some very famous people to wear the logo on their baseball cap, and now everyone knows who the Yankees are. It helps that they are the most successful baseball franchise ever, and have won the World Series more than any other side.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers have Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to thank for their massive fanbase after dominating the league during the ‘70s and ‘80s. As they moved on, a new generation of superstars moved in, and it was time for Kobe and Shaq. People support the Lakers because they have always had some of the league’s best players. Even now they have LeBron James in their roster, perhaps the greatest player in the modern era.
Boston Celtics
Every great team needs a rival, and the Celtics traded NBA Championships with the Lakers for many years. Between them, they are the two most successful basketball franchises in history, helped by the fact they are two of the oldest. With iconic past stars such as Larry Bird and Bill Russel, the Celtic were able to establish themselves as one of the most likable franchises in the States.
Green Bay Packers
Maybe it’s because Green Bay won the very first Super Bowl, but there are an awful lot of Packers fans all over the United States. They aren’t the championship-winning juggernaut that is the New England Patriots, but that’s why fans like them. They are known for working hard and always being competitive. Fans of the Packers are always kept on the edge of their seats as they never know if this year is going to be their year or not.
Real Madrid
Soccer is a global sport, and Real Madrid are one of the most successful sides in its history. They have won the European Champions League a record 13 times and their domestic league a record 33 times. It is estimated they have around 350 million fans cheering them on from all corners of the globe. With so much support comes a lot of pressure and Madrid fans demand success, failure to win both La Liga and the Champions League often results in the coach getting fired.
These are the franchises that fans love to cheer on the most. If it wasn’t for their great rivals, they would probably be universally loved, but we all know sporting rivalries are what make things interesting.
