Within a month and a half of Paul and Karine entering into a relationship, Paul had an unusual demand. He told Karine that she needed to be tested for pregnancy and any venereal diseases. He escorted her to a clinic where he said she needed a blood test to prove that she was neither pregnant or infected. Karine was put out by his request – and quite rightly.

She stated in the show that if he didn’t trust her after this, that she would end the relationship. Though offended, Karine happily obliged, knowing she had nothing to hide and would do anything for Paul. Viewers found it disconcerting, however, that Paul didn’t seem to give her a choice, and didn’t have tests taken himself.
