Cindy Nelson was on her way to competing with the United States Women’s Olympic Ski Team, but she dislocated her hip before the games could start. However, after major hips surgery and two years of physical therapy, Nelson was back on the slopes, winning the bronze medal at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. Nelson retired from competitive skiing in 1985 after a plethora of World Cup, World Championship, and Olympic wins.
