There is the old saying that age is just a number, and the athletes on this list prove its validity. These are athletes that played sports professional as early as the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and they are still around to talk about. Most importantly, they are all over the age of 80, a age milestone that not everyone in this world gets the opportunity to reach. Age might only be a number, but it’s certainly an impressive one when you consider what these athletes have accomplished in their lives.
With all that being said, we should note that their unique level of elite athleticism probably helped contribute to their long life. There is a reason that doctors are constantly advising us to exercise regularly, and it’s not because they think we should be applying for America’s Next Top Model. It’s because exercising improves your health, at least when it’s done in moderation. All of the athletes on this list are no strangers to exercising, and something tells us that they continued this practice even after they had retired.
We’ve got an assortment of all the greats you know and love. One of our football representatives is none other than NFL quarterback Bart Starr of the Green Bay Packers. In the basketball realm, we have Laker legend Jerry West, the man who they based the NBA logo off of. You may be surprised to find out just how many top notch athletes of 50 years ago are still going strong, and you may just get an intense dose of nostalgia when we call upon memory lane once more.
[post_page_title]Bob Cousy (90 years old)[/post_page_title]
Yet another NBA legend who has won a barrage of championships, he led the Celtics to a total of six titles, and is considered to be one of the all time great point guards. On a list of athletes who are over 80, he stands above them all at the respectful age of 90, and it’s amazing that he’s still going strong. In his later years, Cousy spent a lot of time broadcasting for the Celtics, obviously wanting to stay close to the team that gave him so much.
