George Mikan was incredibly influential in that regard, using the hook shot before it became popular, and setting an example for what a big man should look like in the league. Throughout his time on the Minneapolis Lakers, he averaged an impressive 23 points and 13 rebounds, and helped the team win a total of five championships, setting a precedent for future Laker teams to follow suit.
