One friend had a college roommate who seemed to think he was above everyone else, because of his wealthy background. But his parents wanted his college years to be a humbling experience – and therefore made him budget a small allowance each month.
It took until he had to live off of beans and ramen for a full week, for this kid to come off his high horse. His snobby attitude would still pop out now and again, but he improved a lot over those four years.
