Arsène Wenger will be leaving Arsenal once the season comes to an end, after 22 years with the Club. The Frenchman won seven FA Cups, three Premier League titles and seven Community Shields, while transforming the game. He’s become the most successful Gunners manager since joining the club in 1996, but in recent years has been subject to huge criticism due to the club’s decline. Wenger’s departure leaves one massive question, who will be the next Arsenal boss?
Enrique is the top pick to fill this role and transform the club back into a title contender. The former Real Madrid and Barcelona midfielder had a superb career both as a player and manager. He won two La Liga titles, the Champions League and Copa Del Rey three times during his three years as the Barcelona boss. The Spaniard has been out of work since last June after leaving the Catalan giants and is understood to be the favorite with the Arsenal board. The 47-year-old would likely take the club in a new direction and change the stagnant approach left by Wenger in recent years.
Vieira is a fan favorite and linked with a potential return to Arsenal this summer. He was signed by Wenger in 1996 on a deal from Juventus worth £3.5 million. The Gunners legend won three Premier League titles and is truly admired by the North London supporters. Vieira is currently managing New York City FC in the MLS after previously working as Manchester City’s reserve team and Elite Development squad manager. Despite his lack of experience, the Frenchman has an incredible tactical mind and will certainly return to Europe in the future, whether as the next Arsenal boss or elsewhere with a top division club.
Ancelotti is certainly an easy choice and one who can bring instant success to the club. The Italian has managed all the top clubs in Europe including Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. The decorated manager has won three Champions League titles and is a true winner with years of experience. The 58-year-old knows the Premier League well and is believed to be interested in returning to London.
Another Italian manager who comes to mind and is linked with the Gunners job. Allegri could be a perfect choice for Arsenal as the current Juventus manager continues to dominate the Italian league. He’s won three Serie A and Coppa Italia titles since joining the club, and led the Bianconeri to two Champions League finals despite losing in 2015 and 2017. His tactical intelligence and presence on the pitch would be a great addition to the club. While Arsenal are very set in their ways from the past, they need someone with new ideas and style to compete for the title. While other Premier League rivals have improved in recent years, Wenger did not adapt to the new changes and spending which has directly impacted their lack of silverware during the previous decade. Allegri could fix Arsenal’s defensive problems and has proven to be a world class manager in Italy.
Simeone would be a dream manager for Arsenal as he would check all the boxes of a long term replacement. The Atletico Madrid manager has done an incredible job with less spending than any other manager and has the credentials to take the Gunners forward. The Argentine is a true winner and fighter which is why he’s been linked with a move to Arsenal for several years. A charismatic and players coach, Simeone could be an instant success and should be a top target for the Arsenal board.
