After months of waiting, trash talking and hype, the “fight of the century” has come and gone. Floyd “Money” Mayweather and the Conor McGregor finally stepped into the ring at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas late on Saturday night for a fight that some have said was better than they expected.

But let’s face it, it ended as expected.

Floyd Mayweather has solidified his legacy, undefeated, 50-0, TBE, The Best Ever. A phrase Mayweather trademarked along with the number 50 over a year ago.

But as mentioned earlier, the fight was better than expected. McGregor lasted ten rounds in the ring before a TKO by the guy who will be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. McGregor started out strong but eventually tired out, and referee Robert Byrd ended the bout. Though later the Irishman said he wished the ref didn’t stop the fight.

And even though the fight cost $100 on PPV, the world was watching. Of course, the big heroes of the night were the fans that paid the $100 and then shared with those who didn’t.

Other athletes obviously tuned in to what was promised to be the fight of the century.

For those of you who forgot (or may not have noticed), not only is Mayweather now officially the best ever, but he’s also proven that it’s possible at any age.

And there were those who couldn’t stay away from the jokes.

But all jokes aside, the MMA fighter stepped into the ring for his first boxing match against one of the greatest who ever lived, and fans know how much respect he deserves.

Now that it’s all over, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, The Best Ever, is officially retiring. Unlike before, this one will last. After the fight Mayweather told ESPN he wanted to go out with a bang, to “give the fans what they wanted to see.”

At the end of the interview, ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio had to check one last time: last fight, absolutely?

“Last right absolutely, so all young guys don’t call me out. Im through, I’m an old man and I’m retired now.”

And he definitely went out with a bang (and plenty of bucks).
