Reeves was on the cusp of a break out after starring in So Proudly We Hail in 1943. He received critical acclaim but then the war began, and he was drafted to go and fight.
This was not something he could turn down so Reeves had to leave Hollywood behind for a while until he could come home again. Even while fighting against the Germans, Reeve had made a big enough impression on some Hollywood directors that he began to find work.
