Reeves had spent a lot of time trying to make himself as famous as possible, and that meant starring in many movies. He was working hard on becoming an A-list star, but he hadn’t quite got there yet. Then the role in The Adventures of Superman came along, and Reeves was very conflicted.
He knew it was a solid role that had plenty of work for him, but it was a risk. Reeves wanted to be a big star, among the names of Humphrey Bogart and Cary Grant but didn’t think Superman would get him there. The actor thought the roles was a double-edged sword but was interested enough in the part to take it.
