Malcolm’s hotheaded, overbearing but loving mother Lois was played by the talented Jane Kaczmarek. After the series wrapped up its final season, Kaczmarek went on to portray Judge Trudy Kessler in the TNT drama Raising the Bar, she also did some voice work as Judge Constance Harm on The Simpsons.

Lately, she has been taking on some more minor roles – such as Gwen Crawford in the USA Network comedy Playing House and Mrs. Philips in an episode of the hit NBC drama This Is Us. Despite all of her recent television work, she is still to this day most recognized for her iconic tough-love mother performance on Malcolm in the Middle.
