Following the release of Gone with the Wind, the film received lots of criticism for the way it portrayed African American characters.
However, one thing that seemingly went unsaid at the time was also how the pay gap between the male and female characters was enormous. Clark Gable’s fee was a reported $120,000 for 70 days of filming, while Vivien Leigh, only received $25,000 for 125 days of work. The pay gap was a sign of the inequality back then, and one that many still argue exists today.
