Oher has made a point of letting people know that he was already a competent football player before he met the Tuohys, and this is certainly the truth. Having been at Briarcrest for 20 months before moving in with them, he had already been rated a 5-star player by football news and analysis site Scout.com.
He had also been ranked as the 5th most-promising offensive lineman in the U.S. at the time. Oher certainly got a lot of help from the Tuohys, but he was already a rising star.
