Finding the motivation to workout is hard. You have to put your body through so much when you go running, cycling or whatever your exercise of choice is that giving up seems like a much better idea. However, you’re never going to achieve the body of your dreams if you don’t put in the effort. If you’re struggling to get yourself in the mood to workout, perhaps you’re just not listening to the right stuff.
Listen to what you love
First and foremost, go for the music that you love to listen to. There’s no good saying this or that genre will help you stay motivated if you can’t stand that sort of music. It may well work once you’re out there, but it won’t help you get off the couch and start exercising in the first place.
Whether you’re a fan of rock, pop or country, be sure to start up your playlist with some of your favorite songs. If the music is something that you can easily get lost in, you’ll find it a lot easier to exercise. Half the time you won’t even realize you’re working out.
Size does matter
If you’re like us, chances are you can’t run for too long without taking a break. It’s difficult to keep up with exercise, especially when you’re new to it, and the last thing you want is to push yourself too hard. How long do you give yourself before tapping out though? You could set a timer on your phone, or you could use your music as a basis.
Think of it like this. You’re running low on energy, but you’re listening to a great, empowering song. It’s giving you the motivation to keep going, and you tell yourself you’ll make it to the end of the track. The determination that music gives you is part of the reason why it’s so great to listen to while exercising. With that in mind, try and fill your playlists with songs that have a long play time. You might be surprised how far you go for when you use music as a unit of measurement.
Going technical
Of course, certain types of music will benefit your workout performance from a technical side of things. It’s advised that you kick off your exercise playlist with tracks that have plenty of bass as they empower you to get going.
Once you start to feel the burn, you want to change to music that has a lot of beats per minute. The higher the bpm, the faster the song, which generally means it’s going to be upbeat and spur you to keep going. This is where pop and rock songs tend to be hugely beneficial. Anything that’s energetic and makes you want to dance or jump around is an excellent choice for a workout.
How people can exercise without music we don’t understand. If we didn’t have our tunes to keep us going, we’d barely make it out the front door. Luckily, we now know exactly what to listen to ensure we stay devoted to our workouts and go from fat to fit.
