The gold medals that Olympic athletes bring home instill pride and joy within the citizens of their home countries, as they prove to the world that one of their own is indeed better than all of the rest. Kerri Strug was introduced to the world during the 1996 Atlanta Games, in the Women’s All-Around Gymnastics portion. Strug was a part of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ who were the original ‘Fab Five’.
She decided to forego her opportunity to be a part of the Individual All-Around event in order to compete alongside her teammates in the group event. Strug was suffering from an ankle injury at the time yet still managed to land her vault routine.
