Going way back here, Peggy Fleming was the only US athlete to win a gold medal during the 1968 Olympic games. Fleming won her gold in Women’s Figure Skating.

In addition to her Olympic win, Fleming is also a three-time World Champion, a title she earned over a two-year span, from 1966 to 1968. Fleming continued her career in figure skating in a less competitive way, by starring in ice shows as a figure skater. Flemings’ most recent role was a a national figure skating event commentator, including in the Olympic games.
