Sawao Kato was a part of the Japanese gymnastics team during the 1976 Olympics. Throughout the games, Kato won 12 medals, eight of them Olympic gold.
His specialty was the parallel bars, which he performed on during the final event and win in the Individual Men’s Gymnastics Event. In Japan, Kato is considered the top gymnast with the most wins. At present day, Kato is an adjunct professor at University of Tsukuba.
