When they discovered that the Maya civilizations did, in fact, have impressive connections between towns and cities, the experts were able to create an estimate as to how many people lived here. From their knowledge and calculations, they believe that the new regions they uncovered could have been the home to around 11 million people.

This is more than anything they had ever estimated before, which once again disproves the original thought that these locations were sparsely populated and unlivable. This research truly did change the course of history, and our knowledge of it.
