Becoming a mother is supposed to be one of the most joyous occasions in a woman’s life. Though the experience is often met with fear and anxiety as well, most mothers agree that holding their newborn baby in their arms for the first time is the best moment of their lives. Starting a family is a beautiful moment and one that people remember forever. After all, older relatives are always saying “I remember the day you were born like it was yesterday,” aren’t they?

The year was 1949 and the main character of our story is a young woman named Genevieve Purinton who was growing up in Indiana at the time. She was 18 years old and was getting ready to finish high school soon.
