For several years after her unfortunate exit from “Beverly Hills, 90210,” Shannen occupied herself with a variety of television films. Some of her roles included “Jailbreakers,” “Friends ‘Til the End” and “Sleeping with the Devil,” but none of them scratched the itch left behind by Brenda Walsh.
Fortunately, Spelling couldn’t bear to see her talent to go waste, so when he started producing another show, he offered one of the characters to Doherty. He thought she’d be perfect for Prue Halliwell, one of the three female leads in “Charmed.”
