[post_page_title]Lou Gehrig’s uniform from his farewell speech 1939[/post_page_title]
Lou Gehrig stood in front of a crowd of 61,000 people in 1939 to say goodbye to the Yankees, the fans and the game of baseball. He was a man who at just 36 years-old admitted he was dying, and yet called himself one of the luckiest men on earth. He died almost two years to the day after he gave that speech. The uniform believed to be worn by Gehrig on that day was auctioned off in 1999 to an anonymous buyer for $451,000.
