The Sheffield Football club rule book is the oldest football rule book in the world. In 2011, the book, which is believed to be one of the first football instruction handbooks, was sold for £881,250, or $1.4 million. Some of the rules jotted down in the pamphlet include no hacking or tripping during a game, and circumstances for a corner kick. The club auctioned off the book to raise money, and it was sold to an anonymous bidder who telephoned in to the Sotheby’s auction house.
