Documents outlining the original rules of baseball, titled “Laws of Base Ball,” signed for $3.26 million in April 2016. The set of documents includes one that defines the game and how it was played in 1856. Written by Daniel Lucius Adams, nicknamed “Doc,” the documents outlined the weight of the ball and where the bases should be. When it was sold, it became the most expensive baseball document ever auctioned, passing Babe Ruth’s 1918 Red Sox contract. The buyer decided to remain anonymous.
