SOLD: The most expensive sports memorabilia to be auctioned off

Limping Kirk Gibson became the unlikely hero of Game 1 of the 1988 World Series for the LA Dodgers. He could barely walk, but stepped up to the plate during the ninth inning and knocked one out of the park, winning the game. Twenty-two years after one of the greatest endings to a ball game, Gibson auctioned off the bat he used for $575,912, as well as several other pieces of memorabilia. The bat itself was originally a “reject,” and Gibson says he only used it because it was light and he was injured.
