Perry White is Clark Kent’s boss at the Daily Planet. This is an established newspaper in a busy city, but it seems like they don’t run it as such.

Kent is asked to pick up a story concerning the local sports team, but White has completely ignored the group of sports writers his paper undoubtedly has. Not only has he ignored them but he’s probably insulted them too by asking the new guy to cover a major result for the team, stepping on toes in the process.
