It takes a brave kind of person to walk to the top of Christ the Redeemer, let alone someone who’s willing to stick their head out the top of the statue. Amazingly, it took nine years to build the statue after work started on the piece back in 1922.
Although the figure is now a symbol of Brazil, it turns out that it’s had some international influences. That’s right; the stones to build Christ the Redeemer were imported from Sweden and is thought to have cost $3.2 million in today’s money.
