When he was picked as the number one draft in 1972, it seemed LaRue Martin was destined for big things. Four years later the Portland Trail Blazers player hadn’t progressed, and he was out of the league. He was still very young, so he needed a job that would pay the bills.
To make sure he made enough money to survive, Martin took an entry-level job at UPS and worked his way through the organization. Martin also sits on the board of directors for the National Basketball Retired Players Association.
