It was simply a step too far. Although they had announced their separation a whole three years earlier, their legal separation as a married couple was a lot longer process.

Four-year process

Even after this Panorama drama, it still took the couple another year to finalize the divorce agreements and its terms. On August 28, 1995, their divorce was finalized, and their separation was officially legal. Much to the dismay of the public, Diana was no longer part of the Royal Family.
