For anyone who grew up in the 1980s or 1990s, the first thing that popped into their head while reading the beginning of Plagmoid’s story was probably “Stranger danger! Stranger danger!”

This lesson, about being wary of strangers, has been imparted to generations of children through public service announcements since at least the 1960s. Time and time again, we have been told by short videos – that actually seem kind of hilarious in retrospect – that we shouldn’t be following complete strangers into unmarked vans. To be fair, they had a point.
