Only 16 years old, Shawn Johnson took home both gold and silver medals at the 2008 Olympic Games, and earned her spot in history as one of the best American artistic gymnasts ever. She grew up in this fairly humble home in Des Moines, Iowa, as the only child to Doug and Teri Johnson.
They noticed very early on their little daughter had tons of energy, so Shawn was enrolled in gymnastics already at age 3. Her talent was quickly noticed by national team coaches, and soon enough her athletic career skyrocketed.
