Despite the law legally stating the Queen has custody rights to any of her grandchildren, she, of course, would never practice that law. However, the Queen’s relationship with her grandchildren has and always will be special.
Essentially, there’s an unwritten rule that the Queen has a say in the parenting of her grandchildren. For example, Prince Charles and Princess Diana were required to gain permission from Her Majesty whenever they planned to travel with William and Harry or leave the country with them.
