When you’re a teenager, appearances are everything. It’s not much different once you’re older, but it’s never more pronounced than when you’re in high school. If you don’t conform to what’s considered ‘in’ by the popular crowd, you might find yourself on the wrong side of the other students. It can make being a teenager even harder than it already is, especially if you know that you stand out from the crowd.
Dakota Nelton knew that he wasn’t part of the popular crowd. His interests differed too much from most of his fellow students to ever fit in. However, Nelton never felt more unpopular than when a girl rejected his invitation to the homecoming dance. Having his hopes dashed was one thing, but being mocked for it by the other kids was almost too embarrassing to bear. He just wanted the ground to swallow him whole.
