Keith Haring gained his reputation as an iconic street artist through his spontaneous graffiti in the NYC subway stations. His use of simple figures and bold colors made his works instantly recognizable. Haring’s friend and fellow artist, Andy Warhol, convinced him that there is no shame in commercializing art, and Haring opened his Pop shop in SoHo, Manhattan.

The shop is still active, despite Haring’s passing in 1990, and continues to sell merchandise with Haring’s artwork, with all proceeds being distributed to AIDS and children’s organizations by the Keith Haring Foundation.
