Yves Saint-Laurent was the founder of the eponymous French fashion label, along with his partner Pierre Bergé. Following his passing in 2008, Bergé made the decision to auction off their joint art collection, with all proceeds going towards the creation of a new AIDS research foundation.
The sale netted a reported $443 million, and included the late designer’s Mercedes-Benz car and Hermès designed luggage. In 2009, Forbes reported him as one of the highest-earning celebrities who have passed.
