It’s hard to say where this sense of entitlement has come from. Although British taxpayers technically contribute to the lives of the Royal Family, what they pay for is minimal in the grand scheme of things.
Of course, it’s not just overseas that the monarchy has a lot of support. Many Americans celebrate the Royal Family, despite the fact our ancestors once fought for independence from the British. Why do we suddenly have an urge to be connected to something that we initially wanted nothing to do with?
