We cannot help but wonder what would cause a dog to put its life on the line to save a human. It is a very noble thing to do, but most humans wouldn’t choose to put their own life on the line to save someone else. It is possible that dogs do not understand death and therefore might not realize the danger that they are in. However, there have been cases where dogs have died in fires while protecting their owners with their bodies.

The dogs must have realized that it was getting unbearably hot, and should’ve taken the opportunity to escape. Instead they stayed with theirs owners at risk to their own lives. There has been a lot of speculation but there is no definite answer as to why a dog would sacrifice themselves for a human.
