One reason that explains why dogs would risk their lives for humans is that they have empathy. Most people believe that empathy, or the ability to understand and care about another person’s situation, is limited to humans. This has been proven to be untrue.
Dogs have been known to understand when their owners are sad or depressed and have tried to offer comfort by sitting in their owners laps or rubbing against their legs. It is only reasonable to understand that dogs also emphasize when their owner is hurt or in danger, and they will do what they can to save them.
