There have been many cases where dogs seem to possess premonition, they know something bad will happen before it occurs. There have been several cases were dogs started acting strangely, like following their owners closely or acting out of character, and later occurs a traumatic event, such as a cougar attack.
Dogs have also been known specifically to be able to predict earthquakes. They usually hear the scraping, grinding, and breaking of rocks underground that precede earthquakes. They will start barking and acting peculiar and no one knows why until they feel the earthquake. Scientist are trying to train dogs to alert humans when they hear these noises so that the residents know to evacuate the area.
