18-year-old Kaitlyn began her senior year of high school at her town’s local Messalonskee High School in the fall of 2018.

Cheerleading isn’t a recent fad for her either – she’s been a member of her high school’s cheer squad since her freshman year. So how did Kaitlyn suddenly become an army of one on the sidelines? Weird though it may sound, there was no orchestrated mass exodus of students from the squad.

It was sort of an accident, really, as every prior member of the squad simply left on their own. Either they couldn’t continue due to personal reasons or they just didn’t want to keep carrying the pom-poms, but the end result was the same: Kaitlyn was now alone. Or she would be if she chose to stay on herself, that is.
