The Welsh soccer star earned $34 million this year, more than half from his salary ($23 million). This year Gareth Bale had ankle surgery, after a November injury, which limited him playing time and which could put the future of his contract extension in danger. He’s in the midst of a six-year contract with Real. He also has sponsorship deals with Adidas (which lasts through 2020) and the makers of a training mask he uses called Altitude.
