Sadly, there isn’t much room for growth or advancement when you work in a garage that is not owned by you. My gross income has actually stayed the same since 2000, despite the increase in rates over the years.
Even though customers are charges $120 per hour for labor, wages are still much, much lower than that. Most mechanics, like myself, have to take on outside work and various odd jobs in their free time in order to supplement their incomes.
