While Zac, Cindy, and the rest of the guests were enjoying the wedding on the sand, there were some people who weren’t having such a great time. There were red flags out on the beach, signalling that the water was exceptionally dangerous that day.
Red flags mean that the surf is high, there are powerful currents, or both. If you’re not a really skilled swimmer, it’s not a good idea to go too far out into the waves. Zac, who in addition to being a member of the Coast Guard was a swimming instructor and lifeguard, said that he wouldn’t permit his children to “go more than knee deep on a red flag day”.
