Unfortunately, it seemed as though Maryana’s happiness was going to be short-lived. Although she had placed third in the contest, there were still checks that needed to be made after the medal ceremony.
Sadly, these showed Maryana had used a banned substance which could have helped improve her performance. As a result, Maryana was prohibited from competing in any bench pressing competitions for two years, and wouldn’t be allowed to return until at least 2018. It was a huge blow to her career.
